Study: vitamin D could help some fibromyalgia sufferers

Fibromyalgia can cause a person to face several symptoms, including severe pain. Pain associated with this medical condition can be intense and unpredictable. It can sometimes affect a person’s ability to be an everyday participant in the workforce. Fibromyalgia is one of the conditions that could make a person eligible for Social Security Disability benefits.

In addition to potentially having career implications, the pain associated with fibromyalgia can have significant impacts on a person’s daily quality of life.

Thus, finding out what things can help manage such pain is an important endeavor. A recent study looked at one thing that might have pain management benefits for a certain class of fibromyalgia sufferers. The class in question is fibromylagia sufferers who also have vitamin D deficiency. Vitamin D deficiency is fairly common among individuals with fibromyalgia.

The study was conducted by researchers from Austria. The subjects of the study were 30 fibromyalgia sufferers with vitamin D deficiency. In the study, some of the participants were given vitamin D supplements and the others were given a placebo. The period in which the participants took either a vitamin D supplement or a placebo lasted 20 weeks. According to the researchers, the patients who took the vitamin D supplements experienced a reduction in their pain symptoms, while the placebo group experienced no such reduction.

Thus, the study’s results indicate that vitamin D supplements may be able to help reduce pain in fibromaylagia sufferers with vitamin D deficiency. One wonders if any future research will be done aimed at confirming the findings of this study.
